This past November has been nothing short of fantastic and December should carry the same tune all the way until Santa arrives. Depending on the water temperatures the big trout should continue in the Lake all throughout the entire month of December. Of late the bridges have been hot along with birds diving all the way to the Seabrook area with big trout under them. Don’t even bother with the regular 3″ Matrix Shad. The trout are running so large on average the 4″ Mega Matrix is no doubt the way to go. The water in the Lake is magnificent so use the Matrix Flourocarbon line. On pre front days I certainly recommend chasing the big trout flooding the lake. On post front days you have a few options. I personally enjoy looking for reds schooled up in the marshes by fishing deep man made canals. If trout is all you want then on post frontal days target the Great Wall or stay local and fish the man made canals on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. Make sure to get out there and use some vacation days during the Holliday season as this is a fantastic time of year to fish. If you are looking to put a fish on the wall this is a great month to do that so throw that bigger Mega Matrix and look for those bigger bites. Focus on falling tides if possible this time of the year and always keep your head on a swivel for diving birds. If water temps stay up the white shrimp will still be the main forage for these mule trout.
