I think we can all agree that 2020 may be the worst year of this century. Sure the year of 9/11 was tragic for our country especially the big Apple and 2005 was absolutely detrimental to the Gulf Coast along with 2010 when we had the BP oil spill. But 2020 has covered it all. A record setting Hurricane season with the majority of them making Louisiana landfalls. Not to mention the biggest pandemic in the last 100 years to go along with protest and riots in many major cities creating a political feud dividing our country more than we have ever been divifed since the civil war. Also my family’s jewelry store in business since 1948’ is now out of business due to covid and to top it all off LSU football went from best to worst in one year. Well if you like catching big trout and you need a break from CCN or social media and all the negativity that is pushed in your face every day than take a break from all that and get out on the Pontchartrain bridges, all of them. It’s World Series time and that means the World Series trout show up, and they have right on time. I write this story just after an epic trout trip on the bridges today. It’s amazing how they just show up over night. Wether it’s right before the World Series or right after the big trout are more reliable than the Yankees actually making it every year I can tell you that. Just a few days before I wrote this story I caught only a few trout along the bridges but today just a few days later I made a drift and it was on fire. One long drift along the bridge and we were constantly plucking big 2-4lb trout off the pillings one after the other. The fact is the World Series has nothing to do with it. It’s all about water temperature. The magic temp of around 68 degrees is the trigger point and they will stay around until it hits 52 degrees or so. They may even stay all winter into the spring if we can ever avoid the spillway opening. Now let’s talk how to catch them. Most importantly, get your lure to the bottom. Throw your corks away and dust off your heavy jig heads or if you like trolling get your lead line ready and find your box of rattle traps. Here at Dockside TV we use almost exclusively use 3/8oz golden eye jig heads and today we crushed them on the “Finger Mullet” Matrix X-Shad. We like to get the boat on the down current side and cast toward the bridge working the bait slow on the bottom back with the current. Typically we stay on northern edge of lake on north winds and the south end on south winds. We love the Twin Span and Hwy 11 too so don’t have the mindset most do and think it’s only the trestle. Also those with bigger boats and want to avoid the crowds then the Causeway may be your favorite place to fish. Bridge fishing is very complicated so put in your home work. Maybe get a guide to show you the ropes or at least check out all our bridge fishing episodes at Dockside TV. Well goodnight to all and wish us luck as we are getting up early to shoot another Dockside TV early tomorrow morning, but by the time you are reading this you may have already watched that Dockside TV which will be shot right after Hurricane Zeta. Until Next Time:Good Fishing
