If chasing the silver wonders are difficult for you this time of year then simply change the pace and go red and green. It only makes sense as Christmas is near. In all seriousness this is the absolute best time to find bass and reds stacked together. If you find the honey hole you will feel like you are at Rockefeller Park with all the red and green around. The absolute best conditions I find for them is post front, dog low water and freezing cold. When it is freezing they will gang up in places like Gohegans canal, Textron and the By-Pass Canal using a 3/8oz golden eye with your favorite Matrix Shad. On warmer days look for swift falling tides in skinny ditches with hard “S” turns and use a spinner bait with a Matrix on a 1/4 oz Golden Eye. Don’t get me wrong trout can still be caught but I would rather hammer the fish catching 30-70 day rather than grinding out 15 trout. Do not let the coldest of days scare you. I don’t like fishing cold and 20mph NW winds but I love freezing cold with light and variable winds. These man made canals will stay clean and protected from the arctic blast so don’t miss out just because its cold.
