It’s the most wonderful time of the year and Santa Clause is no where to be seen. NFL and college football is rolling along with the MLB playoffs and crisp weather with specks moving to the inside. If you like red fish or flounder better they also excel in the month of October. This is a transition month for trout where they move from the outside spawning grounds to the inside fertile areas. Look for them first in the grassy areas of Pontchartrain, Catherine and Little Lake. Then as enough fronts push through look for them to transition deeper into areas like the Pearl River or along the bridge pilings of Lake Pontchartrain. So target the shallows first with the Matrix Rip Shad and Matrix X-Shad on a light jig head ripped through the grassy flats. Then as we get closer to the World Series go to a 3/8 oz golden eye and jig deep ledges or the bridges. Start looking for some 2-4 pounders to show face this month and always keep your eyes peeled for diving birds this time of year. If you have been saving up your sick days now is the time to use them.
