Water temps are approaching which will trigger speckled trout to begin their spawn. March is good month to target big trout but it’s also the windiest. Lucky this time of year it’s a lot of SE winds which rises tides from winter lows bringing big surges of bait bait into the Lake. The trout will show up in multiple places but nothing more consistent than the bridges. Over this past winter it was pure red fishing for us so we are eager to see some specks. Tgis month should start off slow but the quality of fish will be strong. Look for the bite to heat up on weeks of the new and full moon as trout gorge themselves gearing up for their spawn. I like to throw the 4” Mega Matrix this time of year as the average trout usually runs about 17” and the bigger lure tends to draw more strikes from the bigger fish. Another great thing to target on the windier days is crappie. They too are in full spawn mode and a great plan b on windy days. So dust off your ultralights too and put away your jackets and get ready for a good start to the 2024 fishing season.
