If you are wanting to try your luck at one of the most delicious creatures swimming the waters then now is the time. Sacalait is the species I am discussing here and this is the time of year they like to come to the shallows and spawn making it easy to find and catch them. Sacalait comes from the French meaning “Sack of Milk” describing its sweet meat. This fish is one of my all time favorites to target. They can be very temperamentalA M but when you find them it can be the time of your life. When water temps start touching the 60 degree mark we start looking for some spawning sacs. Most of the year the are found in deeper waters a lot of times suspended on structures making good electronics essential but when they spawn they will bed up in the shallows making them easy tp locate. A matrix mini under a cork or on a small spinner is a great way to locate them in the shallows. If they are a little deeper simply jigged off the bottom is a great technique. Also the time of year sacalait excel is when a lot of more common species such as specks and reds are very difficult to catch. This is a great fish to target on warm windy days as they are typically found deep in the woods where tall trees block you from the wind.
