Spring is finally here and fishing should really start kicking off for the 2022 year. First thing we need to happen is we need these massive fronts to quit dropping all the way down. We have started the month off with back to back monster fronts spinning off numerous tornadoes and flooding rains causing our waters to stay stained and unstable. Once the weather straights out look for the fishing to really get going. The first place most anglers will begin to look for speckled trout action is the trusty trestles that cross Lake Pontchartrain. The three bridges in the Lake always strive during the month of April. Your favorite Matrix Shad on a 3/8 oz Golden Eye or 1/2 oz head will be the way to go. Avoid west wind days and look for trout up to 25 inches lurking around the bridges. On your calmest of days look to run out in Lake Borgne and target the wellheads out there with the same tackle mentioned above. The trout flock to these well heads this time of year, you just need the right weather days to get out there. Shoreline fishing can be good this time of year and look to throw some topwaters early in the mornings along leeward banks in eastern Pontchartrain along with Lake Borgne. April is one of the best times of year but it can be a windy month. There are a lot of days we have a lot of success in a choppy lake, just avoid a rough lake due to a west wind. Make sure to watch all Dockside TV episodes that have been published in the month of April or May in the last several years to see more techniques and areas that hold those speckled critters. Until next time, good fishing.
