Magical May
After a brutal start to April’s weather May is setting up perfectly. Another year with the spillway staying closed and the Pearl River under control is keeping the waters of Pontchartrain clean and the specks are loving it. The trestle run was solid but coming to an end. The trout are starting to spread out and seeking slightly deeper and saltier waters. As temperatures rise the trout can tend to seek out swifter currents or deeper waters. Places like the causeway and SeaBrook have surprisingly been producing for the first time in the spring in many years. Also the lake Borgne Rigs get hot this time of year. A good lure to stay with is a Shrimp Creole Matrix on a 3/8 oz Golden eye for all these hot spots. Day light bites will be best as it warms up.
If it’s red fish you are looking for then sight fishing season starts now. We like to target the duck ponds off the Rigolets, ICW and inside Proctors Point. Try the matrix craw on a 4/0 weedless swim bait hook when doing that.
May is the best month of the year and fish can be caught in many different ways along with multiple species. This is the month to use your sick days and load up the freezer. Check out all our products at MatrixShad.com and watch all of our Dockside TVs published in May and June.
Until next time
Good fishing.
