Easter eggs are not the only type of egg that goes into play in April. Speckled trout begin the main part of their spawn also during the month of April which gives us anglers a great advantage on catching trophy trout. A trophy trout now of days is about 4-6 lbs. but 75% of Louisiana’s ten pound trout club has come during the month of April due to this reason. Speckled trout on average will weight 10-15% more due to the row in the females bellies plus the females have to gorge themselves in order to properly disperse their eggs making it easier for us to trick them into biting. In the Pontchartrain Basin the bridges will certainly not go over looked but shorelines and other areas will. The bridges will certainly be a great place to target but when they get crowded and they for sure they will, do not over look other areas such as leeward shorelines and also maybe the Seabrook area. Bouncing your favorite matrix or vortex on a 3/8 oz Golden eye is certainly a favorite technique but personally I am always looking for a monster first thing in the mornings cruising a shoreline waiting to bust a Matrix Mullet top water. Make sure to focus on the weeks of the new and full moons in April and go ahead and start using your saved up sick days for that. We have a ton of spring time Dockside TV videos so make sure to check them out before going.
