Some times the technique of topwater can be the most effective approach on a particular fishing trip but typically it is used for the pure excitement. We use our matrix mullets exclusively and they should typically be fished at lowlight hours or under heavy cloud cover even a light drizzle is prime conditions. Another thing a topwater seems to do is yield trophy sized fish. Many anglers biggest fish in multiple species come from a topwater encounter. If you are ever on a fantastic bite using a jig or cork, do yourself a favor and tie on a matrix mullet and get the full excitement out of the situation.
