Spring is finally here and so are some big trout. We have already made some impressive catches on the bridges and shorelines in the eastern part of the Lake. A nice warming trend in late February triggered the big sows to start there annual gorge. What trout like to do this time of year is fill them selves with food and protein to give themselves energy to lay their eggs every spawning season. From the action we saw in late February it looks like the lake is ready for a pretty typical spring run. The pics with this story were from a late February trip with Capt. Tristan Daire fishing the shorelines just east of the Twin Span. Trout from 2-4lbs will be typical all throughout March its just the winds that will make things tuff. March is notorious for being one of if not the windiest month of the year. It usually yields good fishing and is know for big trout just like its big winds. Look for the Pearl River to continue to rise which will keep the fish on a constant move avoiding the fresh river water. Bait of choice throughout March will be the “Nightruese” Vortex Shad and the “Pink Champagne” Matrix Shad. 3/8 oz Golden Eye Jig heads is key so make sure bait stays in contact with bottom.
