Hot as you know what is what the last couple weeks have been. As soon as temps start to decline we will begin to search along the trestle for big doormat flounders. If the flounders have a poor migration this year we will continue to sight fish reds off the ICW on the sunnier days. Water levels have still been low this year and west winds are ridiculous. If you are looking for some fun take a top water and fish any shoreline in lake pontchartrain and hold on. Jack Crevalle have been flat out unbelievable this year and crushing anything making noise on the surface. We have been putting fly poppers above our matrix shads and killing the jacks especially on the shoreline near little woods.
Last year september was good to us around the new big lock system and great wall in Chalmette. Limits of small trout and reds were common all through the early fall while we waited for the big trout to show up in the lake when temperatures dropped in the 70’s. Fish a 1/2 oz golden eye around the del water of the locks and try the new Vortex Shad colors. Also the East Pearl and West Pearl will get hot this month. Where the west middle dumps into mud lake is the hot spot for september on school trout as the white shrimp pile up in that area. Look for birds to begin diving this month and last until october.
