Sacalait Report By Capt. Anthony Kyzar
Spring is finally here and the sacalait and bass are starting to spawn . The water temps are climbing into the 60’s and that is the magic number. The males are pulling up to the bank
to build the nests and the females will be waiting for the full moon this month to go join the males.
The females are hanging off the bank on any structure they can find.
Look for clean black water and places on the bank that are nice and clear of lilies and grass.
The canals we fish have an under cut bank with a ledge that you can see when you get close .
I like to use the lightest jig head possible with a pink or green matrix mini under a cork so you get a slow fall….
Most bites that you get are when the bait is falling .
We are fishing all the canals south of Houma out of Bayou Black marina.
There are small sweet spots in the vast canals in our area
Keep moving and when you catch the first one… slow down and you can load the boat .
