The kickoff event for the 2017′ Tito’s Redfish Series was this weekend at Coco Marina. Ninety boats awaited blast off at day light with many of them being seasoned pros and veterans. After a long day of fishing and plenty big reds hitting the scales it was Team Hrubes with the largest red of the tournament caught on the White Lightening Matrix Craw.
Read how Shawn and April Hrubes’ Day unraveled below:
We picked #87 and blasted off at 7:15am. We got to our spot at 8am. Shawn caught the first 3 fish and all of them were 7 pounds. We needed an up grade. I wanted to move and go to our plan B spot. But Shawn wanted to stay knowing there were big fish maybe they moved to a different area. So we fished the same area all day. Around 12 pm is when we finally began upgrading. We saw a nice red tailing in the distance. I threw a white Matrix Craw on a 1/2 ounce weedless hook. Made a perfect cast with 25 mile an hour winds blowing and she exploded on the craw! I finally caught a red and it was a BIG ONE. 27 3/4 inch 10.67 pounds. I began crying and thanking God for the increable blessing. I know God had a lot to do with that cast because I know I’m not that good. Shawn caught an 8 pounder on the Blue Magic Matrix Craw and I caught a 9 pounder on Purple Haze Vortex Shad. So we upgraded all of our fish. Our total weight was 27.73. We finished 11th out of 94 teams.
If you want to test your luck against some top redfish anglers the series will be heading to Hopedale, Louisiana next!!!!!!!
