Lake Pontchartrain is producing some real trophy trout right now. Look for big trout to be setting on major drop offs ready to ambush bait all sumer. Drop offs with snags and debris is key with swift currents during the summer. From Lake Pontchatrain to Lake Borgne Big Trophy Trout are lurking right now and this is #1 Secret to Catching them—– Manage your bait!!!! Save your biggest shrimp, poggies, mullet or croaker for when you are in a big trout Zone. If you are on a run of drum or school trout, don’t waste your biggest shrimp, prettiest croaker or friskiest mullet at that time, save them for when you catch back to back 3 pounders then drop your biggest friskiest bait down. These big trout are lazy and only want to eat once a day so they are looking for a big meal. Of course you can catch 7 pound trout on a tiny shrimp or a 3″ plastic but if you are truly targeting big fish, big baits are the answer. Check out these incredible pics of these Giant trout we have been catching out of DockSide all June. Most fish have came from DockSide Shrimp and Cast-netted mullet. These Mule trout don’t bite everyday so if the trout are acting stubborn settle for the drum under the twinspan they are everywhere. Simply use your smallest shrimp or even dead ones for that. They do have a few reds, flounder and trout lingering in there along with some CCASTAR winning sheepshead.
