This is the time of year when crowds can get out of control and the usual community holes are over fished there is ways to get the water to yourself. Not only here in Lake Pontchartrain but all over the Gulf coast there are everyday common community holes and the pressure can be unbearable. This is the time of year when we try and sneak off and fish a lot of spots in the lake that may not be a secret but definitely carry much less boat pressure. We really focus on main points and structures in eastern Lake Pontchatrain or the rig fields in Lake Borgne. Make sure to watch our latest DockSide TV Video “Avoiding the Crowds” to see some of these spots. On the prettiest of days especially or the weekends our advice is to chase red fish in the marsh. Whether you like chasing the reds in the Biloxi Marsh, the ICW, the lower Pearl River or the broken marshes off Lake Pontchartrain any of these areas produce nice red fish catches and boat pressure is non existent. We have plenty DockSide TV videos chasing reds deep in the marsh so make sure to check them out. Catching trout with plastic tends to get more and more difficult as water temperatures increase and that is when we turn our focuses to flounder and reds, although trout fishing can stay easy throughout June if it is a mild summer and water temps stay below 85. If that is the case make sure to use Magneto Matrix Shad from www.MatrixShad.com and focus on deep ledges and points all over the Lake Pontchatrain and Borgne basin such as the Hospital Wall and treasure Isle Point. If red fish are the targeted species the Nightruese and Purple Haze Vortex Shad is the go to bait on a 5/16 oz Golden Eye. All in all June is a great month with a lot of diversity. Let the winds, weather, tides and temps dictate where and what you fish fore.
