As temperatures cool something special happens in our local residential canals. White trout surge into our deep man made canals and make for a wonderful adventure to bring a kid fishing. When I see the white trout start to pile up in the canals such as Eden Isles the first thing I do is bring my kiddos fishing. There is no better way to hook a kid on fishing than a short boat ride with lots of action. I typically begin the search of the white trout by trolling around 1.7 mph and targeting 12-18′ of water. Drag your favorite Matrix Shad on a 1/2 oz Golden Eye. Once you find a section holding them them you can spot lock it and go to town on them. They really group up this time of year in the local canals and they are not hard to catch. The non stop action will get a kid hooked on fishing easily and make memories of a lifetime. The cold weather does not bother these fish and a lot of time makes it better. Don’t be surprised if some big specks move in with them and some giant Blue Cats.
