“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times” as Charles Dickens once wrote. Well here off the Pontchartrain basin it has been the worst of times. This April was the worst I just about ever remember. The spillway water finally made its way all the way to Lake Borgne mixing with more fresh water dumping from a flooded Pearl River. The fishing before the line of bad water was pretty good but now the dirty river water has taken over the estuary like the plague. With the closer of the MRGO spillway openings and high rivers kill the Lake for just about the whole spring and summer for trout. The good news is the redfish seem to like the fresh water so look for a solid redfish summer and hopefully the drum pop up on the twin span. As far as trout go you better hope gas prices stay down because long boat rides will be the key. As far as for us at DockSideTV we will be traveling to the Far East toward the panhandle in search of big trout and salt water. Make sure to watch all our DockSideTV episodes on fishing big trout with topwater. “The Best of Times” will be back in October. Until next time
Good Fishing.
