August is certainly not one of my favorite months. We seem to get tons of rain this time of year, water temps are at year round highs making the fish lethargic and most off all we have our eyes pealed on the tropics during this time. There definitely is fish to be caught and some great catches can happen for sure though. If I am trying to be lazy sheepshead in the shade of the twin span with live shrimp is certainly an option. If you want trout you better get up extremely early and fish deep. Places like the LnN bridge, the Hwy 90 bridge and Martellas Castle are all likely spots for trout in August. Carolina rigging matrix or putting the Mega Matrix on a 3/4 oz jig head is what I like to do. If its a sunny day I certainly recommend sight fishing deep off the marshes this time of year. Make sure to watch all our sight fishing episodes on DockSide TV as thats how we target reds in the summer using the Matrix Craw and other items from MatrixShad.com Trout fishing can be pretty tough this time of year so don’t hesitate to fall back on the reds. One great way tp target trout in August is at night. The Pontchartrain basin is loaded with dock lights and can be very effective for catching boxes full of trout. The Matrix Mini is deadly at night on our Golden Eye Mini jig heads. Try and beat the heat the best you can and avoid the middle of the day. Bring plenty sunscreen and liquids and lets pray we can avoid a hurricane this year.
