If you are wondering where to fill the box right now the answer is “The Wall’ as the locals call it. Every year from September all the way into February, the “Great Wall of Chalmette” has been with out a doubt the place to be from fall to winter off the Lake Pontchatrain basin. Ever since the wall was built following hurricane Katrina it has created with dual purposes. One it helps keep flood waters out of the New Orleans area while it also creates a fall and winter time haven for beautiful speckled trout that are seeking deep ledges and holes. We usually launch at South Shore Bait and Marina off the Chef when targeting this fertile area once water temps drop below 75 degrees. When water temps hit 65 or so it is what we call “Show Time” Matrix and Vortex Shad on a 1/2 oz Golden Eye Jig Head is the perfect combo. We switch to a 1/2oz head for this area due to its abyss like depths. The wall along with many other dead end canals and step ledges create a perfect fall and wintertime fishery for all of us that love chasing trout up to five pounds during the fall and winter. This will be the place to be for the remainder of 2015′ season so BOOK YOUR CHARTERS NOW!!! Grab a jacket and some Matrix, Vortex and Golden Eye Jig Heads and Get in on this action.
