Hot is an understatement to the summer so far. This had to be the hottest June on record. South Louisiana was plagued with brutally hot west winds making fishing very tough but do able. Me personally I targeted small bass in the man made canals on days where severe thunderstorms we forming and ran to Lake Borgne to target red fish when skies were clear. Getting a tremendously early start is the key. No only to catch fish but for safety reasons also. The Matrix Craw is key for reds in the summer and sight fishing for them makes it much easier so go that route on the sunnier days. The Matrix Fluke is deadly for the small bass lurking all the man made canals on the north shore. If trout is all your are interested in you need to take a ride. LnN bridge is good on light tide days. On stronger tides try the rigs in Lake Borgne and don’t forget about Martellas Castle. Go early, beat the heat and watch out for severe storms.
